Hemkund Sahib

Nestled amidst the snow capped Himalayan peaks, Hemkund Sahib is a beautiful Lake which is a sacred destination for the Hindus and Sikhs. Located near Govindghat in Uttaranchal, Hemkund Sahib is surrounded by seven snowy mountains, and quite close to the lake lies a laxman Temple and a Gurudwara. A number of stories and legends are associated with the Hemkund Sahib. It is said that Guru Govind Singh had meditated on the banks of this lake. While according to Hindu mythology, a number of sages like Rishi Medhasa of the Puranas and Lakshman performed their penance on the shores of Hemkund Sahib. From Hemkund Sahib, originates the Laxman Ganga, which merges with the Pushpawati River, which flows from the Valley of Flowers at Ghangaria. One of the most difficult treks of Uttaranchal, Hemkund Sahib is breathtakingly beautiful and the idyllic serene retreat which is cut off from the rest of the world.
