  • Do You Know? The church witnessed a special event in 1992 when visitors from 39 countries participated in its service.
  • The Church
    The church is built in Gothic style. It’s tapering high windows, the front and the back sides of its building, all seem to be in perfect harmony with the Deodar grove, which is a home to lots of Monkeys, Baboons and Birds. N.M.Mcleod, a retired captain from the British army, donated the brass altarpieces, a large cross and candlestick stands for the church. A brass Eagle weighing about 75 kg and standing about two metres high, was presented to the church by the Gorkha Rifles in 1913. In April 1998, thieves tried to steal the old bell but could only move it about 300m. Since then, all the valuable items have been sent to Kangra and Palampur for safekeeping. more..

One of the most poignant memories of the British Raj is the church of St. John, situated in the wilderness. This charmingly dressed stone church is located just 8-km from Dharamsala on the way to McLeod Ganj. Under the shade of Doedar branches, a memorial has been made over the body of the British Viceroy, Lord Elgin who died at Dharamsala in 1863.
