The Goechala trek in Sikkim is one of the most romantic trails the Indian Himalayas has to offer the enchanting walk through the Tshoka. Rhododendron forests, the vast Dzongri and Thansing meadows, the startling blue waters of Samiti lake, the looming presence of Kanchenjunga and Pandim and the icy trail to Goechala makes the trek very romantic.

 Goechala trek in Sikkim, is from Yuksom to Dzongri and onwards to Goechala has superb views of Kanchenjunga. From Yuksom, the trail follows the Rathong Valley to Bakkhim and from here a steep ascent to the village of Tshoka. Above Tshoka the trail reaches Phedang. A further stage brings you to Dzongri (4020 m). From here the trail drops steeply down the river to Thangsing (3930 M). The final stop is at Samiti Lake from which an assault is made to Goecha La (4940 m) for the best views of Kanchenjunga.
Dzongri is situated at an altitude of about 4020 M, in West Sikkim. It offers the trekker a most fascinating close-up view of Kanchenjunga and Mt. Pandim. To the west rises the long outline of the Kyangla ridge. Dzongri is trekker’s paradise. Goecha La is situated at an altitude of about 4940 m. Goecha La offers spectacular view of mountains like Pandim, Kanchenjunga and others. The trek follows an incredibly picturesque route past lush vegetation and wonderful mountain views until it reaches the high pass.
Delhi – Bagdogra – Darjeeling (2045mts/6712ft) 65 kms / 3-4hrs
Take morning flight from Delhi to Bagdogra. Meet our representative and drive towards Darjeeling. On arrival transfer into hotel. Evening sightseeing and acclimatisation. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

For people who can manage to wake up early there’s a trip to Tiger hill from where at dawn one gets spectacular views of the Kanchenjunga with Darjeeling in the foreground and Everest and Makalu on the horizon. Today one can also take a joy ride on the Toy train of Darjeeling. This train was commissioned in 1881 and still is a big attraction for tourists apart from ferrying local people. Darjeeling – Yuksom (123 kms / 6-7 hrs)
Today we will drive to Yuksom,West Sikkim. The base of our trek. The Route to Yuksom is Through Beautiful Darjeeling Tukvar Tea Garden entering Jorethang. Dinner and overnight stay in guesthouse/tents.
Yuksom – Tshoka (3000 mts / 9840 ft) 14 kms / 5-6 hrs
The trail from Yuksom starts at the local market and follows main road towards the north. The trail climbs gently out of the valley and hugs the right bank of the Rathong Chu River, which can be heard thundering through the gorge below. The trail crosses over four bridges to climb steeply towards north-west to the small settlement of Bakhim. Continue for another 3 kms through forest of magnolia and rhododendron to reach Tshokha. On arrival set campsite for dinner and overnight stay.
Tshoka- Dzongri (4030 mts / 13218 ft) 10 kms/ 5-6 hrs
On this day the trail passes through the village of Tshoka and continues to climb north through the forest of rhododendron to the alp of Phedang (3650 m) taking around 3 hrs to complete the ascent. Continue further towards Dzongri. On arrival set campsite for dinner and overnight stay.
Rest day & Acclimatise at Dzongri
The day is for rest and acclimatization. On this day one can savour views of the mountain peaks by climbing up to Dzongri Top. From here you get a panoramic view of Kabru (7353 m), Ratong (6678 m), Kanchenjunga (8534 m), Koktang (6147 m), Pandim (6691 m) and Narsing (5825 m). Towards the west, the Singalila Ridge, which separates Sikkim from Nepal, can be seen. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.
Dzongri – Thangsing (3800 mts / 12464 ft) 08 kms / 4-5 hrs
The trail from Dzongri continues along the right bank of the river towards east. After cresting the hill the path drops into the valley and then crosses the bridge over the Prek Chu river. Its an hour climb from the bridge to Thangsing (3800 m) located on the slopes of Mt Pandim. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.
Thangsing – Lamune (4173 mts /13693 ft) 7 kms / 3-4 hrs
The trail from Thangsing climbs gently north and follows a stream and alpine meadows, Today’s trek is a gradual ascend walking through one of the most picturesque locale during this trek to reach to the camp site for the night Lamune. The walk is through a glade between mighty mountains. As the trek today is short, one can explore the picturesque surroundings in the afternoon or rest for to reserve your energy to coup with the long day tomorrow .Over Night in Lamune.
Lamune – Goecha La (4940 mts / 16200 ft)- Thangsing (3800 mts / 12464)12kms / 7-8hrs
An early start for the hike up to the Goecha La (4,940m/16,200ft) and back. The walk takes about 08 hours roundtrip and it is challenging and strenuous, depending on the weather; the terrain is also more challenging than the previous days on trek. (Those who do not wish to go to Goecha La can stay at the lunch site and relax, or walk to the viewing point, which is less then two-hour hike. The viewpoint provides great views of Kanchenjunga and the surrounding peaks. Those who are up for it, are strongly encouraged to undertake the hike up to the Goecha La, it’s the finest possible view of the Kanchenjunga massif. Returning down the valley, there will be a welcome meal and a short rest before setting off to walk gently downhill for 1½ to 2 hours, to reach Thangsing. Overnight in Thangsing.
Thangsing – Tshoka (14 kms / 6-7 hrs)
It’s worth getting up early to make the short hike to the ridge behind camp. From here there are fantastic views of Kangchenjunga and one can look back up to the Goecha La. Leaving Thangsing, you take a different route back, avoiding the long climb to the Dzongri Plateau. Descending to the Prek Chu River, you contour round through jungle with, inevitably, some ups as well as downs, to emerge at Phedang again. From there it is a steep walk down to Tshoka. This, of course, saves a day on the return march, but does involve quite a long day .Overnight in Tshoka`
