This place was under Nizam rule and derives its name from the famous Nizam ruler of Bijapur, Mohammed Adil Shah. Adilabad District includes major cities such as Mancherial, Chinnur, Adilabad, Nirmal, Bellampally, Kagaznagar, Mandamarri, Bhainsa, Utnoor etc. Adilabad was a part of Maharashtra till the borders changed in 1945, including it in Andhra Pradesh and now Telangana. The people living in this place are from diverse backgrounds giving the district a cosmopolitan touch.
Now located in Telangana, it is the second largest district in the state. The district has a total of 44.8% forest area, famous for its teak trees. Also, Godavari River flows through Adilabad.
The district is connected through NH7 and a Broad Gauge train route. The place can also be reached via Hyderabad which is 300km away.
